WEBINAR: Teaching with Primary Sources, Professor Scott M. Waring, Ph.D, University of Central Florida
1 December 2015, 18:00 CET (Tuesday)
"This session focuses on procedures and practices related to teaching with primary sources in the history classroom. This includes the skills students need to analyze information and come to conclusions in an inquiry. These skills focus on gathering and evaluating sources, and then developing claims and using evidence to support those claims."

- This is a
comic we had done about the first phase of the French Revolution. Unfortunately

the king who doesn't give in and the Nation's Assembly that give the oath of
giving France a law.
(Eirini Zanini)
· - Another
activity we made and I describe it at google presentation about aims and
purposes of that activity is a comic about happy mayors to happy towns as
subproject at our european school journal' s project you can see here Diving in the oceans

- I have used
Dipity for my online timelines, but I have recently found this interesting tool
which enables to create timelines with pictures without limits (Dipity
reaquires a 'Premium' paid upgrade after three timelines on the same
account):
ReadWriteThink Timeline
It also enables you to save the timeline on your pc and complete it later, for example. When it's finished, you can save a copy of it (Pdf format) to use as a worksheet etc. This has been done as part of a Clil module activity as a summary of Industrial Revolution events.

- In the project I described in the first part of this activity we have only used zeemaps.com so far. I know popplet, but I have never used it collaboratively with my students. Maybe we could use it in our migration project to collect and structure ideas ... What we do need is an easy to use tool for creating a joint timeline of the history of migration. This will become really complex (with 4 countries involved). So, if someone can recommend a tool which is easy to use collaboratively and free ... ;-)
(Brigitte Kassel)
- this is not
exately the tool for mind maps that you offered to the group but it is my
favourite one.
I can export the product in svg format and upload it in my internet space giragira.org using ftp protocol.
Then I can use my website made up with a very friendly CMS to give my students the link.
Russian revolution, interactive map. clic on the pencil icon and you can see more info.

DISCUSSING - TASK 1
DISCUSSING AN eTWINNING PROJECT ON HISTORY
There are eTwinning projects focused on history. One of them "Stories in History" was awarded a European eTwinning Prize 2014 as a runner up project. The project itself dealt with young children´s experiences during World War II., there were 3 participating schools from France, Czech Republic and Greece.
A task for you:
Watch the video, go through their project blog and TwinSpace, check out their work online, at school and during school trips or excursions. Concentrate your attention on project steps, methods, collaboration, students´ independent work, ICT tools used, outputs and final evaluation. Post your comments below this blog entry (which activities are inspiring for you, how you would access this topic . . . )
Project blog:

DISCUSSING - TASK 2
DISCUSSING ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP
Active citizenship means active involvement in local communities, it may include volunteering activities, non-formal groups actions or small events like cleaning the streets, river banks etc. Active citizenship is also vital in school life. It is a combination of knowledge, attitude, skills and actions to foster a democratic society. It supports cooperation, values diversity and involves the whole community, it´s important for solving problems of various kind. School programmes should cover communication on building tolerance, fighting prejudice, openess to diversity . . .
"Migration to Europe 2015"
- "an escalating migration crisis is testing th EU´s commitment to human rights and open borders"
- "human tragedies caused by pollitical situation in the Middle East and Africa"
- "volunteers help migrants arriving in Europe"
(these are just three quotes from current newspapers)
A task for you:
How would you introduce and discuss the topic of migration to your students?
What would be the basic steps of your teaching or project activity?
Share your ideas in comments below this blog entry.
